Gordon Brown apologised to the bereaved and distraught mother of Grenadier Guard Jamie Janes, after she berated him for apparently misspelling her son's name and other words in his note of condolence to her.
The affair was taken up by the Sun and the ensuing row between Number 10 and Rupert Murdoch's newspaper dominated much of this week's political coverage.
