New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has said that he believes the new Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is bound to make mistakes. Mayor Bloomberg was speaking on the Politics Show London. He said, "At the beginning he'll make mistakes, and you'll make fun of him. "My advice to him would be the same advice I gave to my oldest daughter one time. "She came to me after about a year in office and said to me, 'Daddy, they're making fun of you', and I said 'I know that. I make mistakes and it hurts but you can't let the press know that it hurts.' You have to be tough about that." He also compared his impression of Boris Johnson with that of Ken Livingstone: "Ken is a different kind of person, maybe a little bit more serious, although he was certainly someone who expressed his views, annoyed some people in doing so." Mr Bloomberg's role as Mayor puts him in charge of all city services for New York's eight million people, including rubbish collection, policing, and schools. Mayor Bloomberg: dissuade people from choking roads. | In April 2008 his plan for a congestion charge in Manhattan was rejected by New York state lawmakers and when the Politics Show London asked him about Boris Johnson's plan to review the Western Extension of the Congestion Charge, he said. "What you need to do is dissuade people from using gasoline and dissuade them from choking our roads, and have a revenue source to invest in mass transit. And congestion pricing does both of those things." Mayor Bloomberg also said that the Mayor of London should have the chance to get rid of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair: "I think he's got to make a case as to why you should have local control over the police force, I believe, and control by someone who answers to the public on an elected basis, and so he should try to do that."
