Presented by Dennis Sewell and Sheena McDonald.
This Saturday’s Talking Politics asks if the British public have lost interest in politics, or are just badly informed.
The Hansard Society recently published an audit that revealed a low level of knowledge about Parliament and its processes, and found a marked deterioration in political engagement over the last five years. Tony Benn, former Labour MP and government minister holds the media responsible saying that journalists are only interested in who’s going up and who’s going down, and doesn’t cover the real politics that affect our daily lives.
Sheena McDonald calls to account a panel of journalists – Anne McElvoy (London Evening Standard), Iain Dale (iain.dale.blogspot.com) and Liam Fogarty, Liverpool journalist and campaigner for a Liverpool mayor.
