This Sunday, join me for an extended interview with the prime minister from Davos - the Swiss ski resort where the annual World Economic Forum is being held.

When we set out for Davos, we were clear that the World Economic Forum was exactly where the story was.

The international situation was casting a shadow over Britain's prospects for prosperity in the next year or two, and here in Switzerland is where all the players are gathered.

That's still true of course - but now Gordon Brown has other headaches closer to home.

Scandal

The resignation of Peter Hain has forced him to rebuild a Cabinet he only appointed seven months ago - and has left questions about his own handling of a funding scandal which has been brewing for months.

Hain out to "clear his name"

Not to mention all those other big ticket issues, like the extraordinary turbulence on the world's markets. Where will this leave Britain and this administration's repeated boasts of economic competence?

In Davos, the scenery is spectacular, but the mood is gloomy.

It's hard to believe Gordon Brown will be any sunnier in his disposition - but we shall see.

The choppy waters for the economy may be uppermost in Mr Brown's mind right now, but there's plenty more in his in-tray.

For years, the often mean, haphazard and apparently random way local authorities dispense social care to the elderly and disabled has caused great resentment.

The government has hinted that it might have another look at what the state can offer older people needing help - both for residential care, and for people needing support in their own homes.

We'll be looking at the options.
