Deputy Labour leadership candidate, Jon Cruddas, told the Politics Show today that it is time for the party to 'move on' from Blairism.

The former Downing Street adviser and Dagenham MP said that the "magic" of Blair's early years had now given way to "extraordinary" resilience.

"Ten years is an awfully long time to be prime minister of any one country. I think he still shows an extraordinary ability, a sort of durability now," he told the programme.

Cruddas added: "That sort of magic of the early years has changed into a sort of resilient durability, which is very impressive, irrespective of whether you agree with it or not.

"I mean, the stuff he takes is extraordinary.

"But the page has turned, it's time to move on."

An aide to Jon Cruddas said that he was not calling for the Prime Minister to resign now.

"The precise timing of Mr Blair's exit is not important," the aide said.

"What's important is that Labour uses this time to refresh itself."
