The Politics Show Yorkshire and Lincolnshire reported on the limited access to broadband telecommunications in rural areas. The issue clearly stuck a chord! A selection of viewers emails are published below.
On Sunday 2 April 2006 we broadcast an "Energy Special" based around the fact that over the winter electricity generators had increasingly turned to coal as gas prices soared.
We asked whether clean-coal technology could see a return of investment in the region's pits and why former British Coal boss Richard Budge had been forced to turn to Russia for the finance he needed to reopen his mothballed Hadfield colliery in South Yorkshire.
It was clearly a controversial subject:
John Barraclough e-mails us: "Successive governments have failed to look into the long term energy needs of this country, can there not be a sharing of all available energy sources in order to conserve whilst at the same time providing a sustainable energy market to last well into the future, without having to rely on imported fuel sources"
Ken Thornton, who describes himself as a "disgruntled former miner" says: "It beggars belief, that Richard Budge, who was handed the British Coal Industry for next to nothingis now wanting to have another go at wrecking a once viable industry by bringing on board the Russians, who are at this moment in time holding other Countries to ransom, for the supply of their oil and gas".
On March 12th 2006 Danni Hewson reported on a campaign supported by Halifax Labour MP Linda Riordan supporting conscientious objectors who refused to pay the proportion of their spent on the armed forces:
Robert Williams e-mails: "As their non-payment of taxes is supported by my local MP, Ms Riorden, I'd like to withhold my taxes that go to on her pay & expenses in Parliament. A job she got under false pretences, standing as a Labour candidate, but now not supporting any of the manifesto pledges"
Transport was a subject we tackled on February 19th 2006- Lincolnshire viewer Allister Webb from Louth says: "Can't we talk about issues that affect people south of the Humber once in a while please?"
