Governing a region like ours is both an art and a science, and the politics affecting our lives doesn't just happen in Westminster - it happens in town halls, county halls, hospitals, police stations, schools and in our neighbourhoods.

So each week we look at the politics affecting your life right here in the North West - from health to street cleaning. If it affects you - we want to know about it.

Here's the team

Annabel Tiffin

Annabel Tiffin presents the Politics Show in the North West... "I originally came to the North West at the best time - 1990, when "Madchester" was in full swing.

"Radio and TV work then took me to the Midlands for a few years, including a short stint with the News Bunny at Live TV!

"But I was always desperate to get back to the region, and joined North West Tonight in 2003 as the producer and presenter of the late news at half ten.

"Handling political heavy weights should be no problem - as out of work I wrestle with two kids and a menagerie of pets!"

"I enjoy good food, good wine and supporting one of the region's biggest football teams - though won't say which one!"

Arif Ansari is the Political Editor.

Elaine Dunkley is the team reporter.

Michelle Mayman is the producer. Born and bred in Blackburn, Michelle was the BBC's North of England producer for many years, and part of the team which covered the James Bulger killing.

After a brief spell in Sydney working at the Olympics, Michelle came back to join the North West Tonight team as News Editor before moving to The Politics Show last year.

"The first interview I ever did as a student journalist was with a politician. It was Michael Portillo - it was a choice between him and my mum. My mum was at work so I interviewed Mr Portillo at Clitheroe Conservative Club". He obviously made an impression.

Lucy Breakwell is an experienced journalist. Lucy grew up in Barrow-in-Furness and started working at BBC Radio Cumbria when she was 13 making the tea and cleaning the record library.

After qualifying as a journalist a stint as a reporter at BBC Radio Lancashire followed before she joined the television team in Manchester four years ago.

As the Politics Show journalist Lucy interviewed all three party leaders in the 2005 General Election but says the highlight of her career so far was spending the day on the Strictly Come Dancing set in London when she produced North West Tonight's own version of the dance programme for Children In Need.
