Panorama's two-part special programme uncovered the extent of the British intelligence services' collusion with Northern Ireland's loyalist murder gangs.

Though the aim of this relationship was to make the gangs' targeting "more professional", several Catholics - who were not involved with the IRA - were killed as a result.

The most controversial was the murder of Patrick Finucane, a solicitor who had defended IRA clients.

Through undercover filming and access to secret files, John Ware's report exposes the people involved in this dirty war and the cover-up that has persisted to this day.
