| Friday, 24 May, 2002, 18:07 GMT 19:07 UK You asked our panel You asked our panel about New Labour's advertising in a live forum on Monday at 1400 BST, shown on Digital Satellite television and here on the website. To watch a recording of the forum select the link below: Answering your questions were David Rendell MP of the Liberal Democrats, a member of the Public Accounts Committee who has told Panorama he will call for a National Audit Office inquiry into the evidence the programme has uncovered; David Willetts MP, the Conservative spokesman on social policy who has previously criticised one of the campaigns we examine; and Stephen Pound, the Labour MP for Ealing North. The Blair government is the biggest advertising spender in the country. Party political messages appeared on our TV screens and in our newspapers just before the 2001 general election, funded by taxpayers. Blair himself knows the rules - he campaigned against the Tories saying they broke the rules back in 1989. Has New Labour spin gone too far? Did you respond to any of the adverts - have you applied for a nursing job or shopped a fraudster? Is it such a big deal if all governments bend these rules when they're in power? How should the government be getting across its message? |
