Contact the British Medical Association for information on the position regarding the refusal of treatment, euthanasia, the law and assisted suicide and living wills: British Medical Association Patients Association (PA) The PA and BMA have produced a booklet on Advanced Statements aims to promote patients' interests to government, professional bodies and the media. It gives advice on patients' rights, complaints procedures, access to health services and self-help groups. The PA is an independent association funded from donations, subscription and government grants. Alert The aim of Alert is to warn people of the dangers of any type of euthanasia legislation and pro-death initiatives. These include the promotion of living wills and advance directives that, Alert believes, create a climate for the acceptance of euthanasia. Voluntary Euthanasia Society (VES) The VES lobbies to make it legal for a competent adult, suffering from an incurable illness, to receive medical help to die at their own considered and persistent request. They can also supply the living will advance directive form to enable someone to refuse unwanted medical treatment. Please note the VES cannot provide counselling nor can they advise people on how to end their lives. The VES asks for �5.00 for a living will pack: a folder containing three copies of the form, a factsheet, instructions on how to complete the forms, where to keep them and a medical emergency card to carry, saying where the forms are lodged and other medical information.
