Cherish was taken into care just before her ninth birthday. Cherish describes how the fire started Since then she has had a settled home life, living with her foster mum Tracey, and recently a foster sibling too. Before she went into care, Cherish was involved in a fire at home. Cherish had to spend three months in hospital before going to live with Tracey. She now goes to college in nearby Melton Mowbray and is studying for a B-tech in visual arts. Cherish says she is not disadvantaged because she has been in care Statistics show that people who have been in care do less well academically and socially than their peers, but Cherish is positive about her future. Cherish turns 18 in July, when her care order will run out. She expects to stay living with her foster family.
