The Dalai Lama has handed over his political responsibilities to another Tibetan exile, Dr Lobsang Sangay, who has previously had a very different life as a Harvard academic.

The challenges are immense, including the disturbing trend in recent months of Tibetan monks and nuns setting themselves on fire in protest at Chinese rule.
