As the World Cup nears, South Africa wants tourists to experience another side of Soweto.

For years the township was synonymous with uprising and resistance, as its majority black population fought against the policies of apartheid.

Even after the victories of the anti-apartheid struggle, it was plagued by grinding poverty and crime.

But now it is trying to attract people interested in bungee jumping, tandem bike tours, and shopping.
