Al-Jazeera was broadcast on BBC Two on Sunday, 1 June, 2003 at 2100 BST.

Correspondent followed Arab news broadcaster al-Jazeera Television as it angered US and British Governments by beaming controversial images of the Iraq conflict around the world.

Disturbing pictures of Iraqi women and children killed by coalition bombs were shown, as were US prisoners of war, and uncensored images of dead coalition soldiers.

The coverage sparked a furious avalanche of condemnation, with America saying some images broke the Geneva Convention.

Things intensified when British shells landed in the lobby of a Basra hotel whose only residents were an al-Jazeera team.

Then, as coalition forces closed in on Baghdad, the broadcaster's office in the city was hit by missiles from a US warplane, killing one of their correspondents.

Al-Jazeera first grabbed the headlines by transmitting the recorded messages of Osama Bin Laden after the September 11 terrorist attacks, much to the anger of the US Government.

And it became clear during the Iraq war that News Editor Ibrahim Hilal, and Head of News Gathering Omar Bek, were desperate to get their news exclusives noticed.

The BBC's cameras were there to reveal how the war was being covered from an Arab perspective, gaining a unique insight into how the Arab view of the war differed from the West.
