Independent Arab television station Al-Jazeera has reached a deal to transmit its news reports on cable in the US. The station, one of the most-watched channels in the Arab world, has come in for fierce criticism for some of its coverage of the war on Iraq.
Critics hit out at its use of images of dead coalition soldiers and prisoners of war.
But others view it as one of the only news channels which gives a Arab perspective on the fighting.
An organisation which supplies foreign language news to cable in the US said it has been inundated with requests for access to the station.
Scola, a non-profit organisation, said there had been many "requests from educators for news content in Arabic".
Al-Jazeera's 30 minute news reports can now be seen on TV stations in states including Ohio, Nevada and New York twice a week.
The station has been hit by the death of one of its news reporters, Tareq Ayyoub, who was killed when a US missile hits its temporary office based in Iraq.
It is thought that Al-Jazeera will pull its remaining staff out of Iraq because it cannot guarantee their safety.
