| Sunday, 22 April, 2001, 12:21 GMT 13:21 UK 8th April 2001 Sunday 8th April 2001 on BBC 1 Stuart Kuttner, managing Editor of the News of the World, explained how the paper had come by its exclusive story about the Duchess of Wessex and justified the use of subtefuge in obtaining it's scoop. The leader of the Oppositon, William Hague, came on to explain why he thought the government was mishandling the Foot and Mouth epedemic. He also said that the countess of Wessex had "made a mistake", but said the matter should now be closed. He told Sir David that he wasn't upset by the rude things she has said about him. Nick Brown the Agriculture Minister, insisted that the epidemic was under control. He said that his ministry had done the right thing at every point and refuted the idea that he should have done more and done it sooner. The Archbishop of Canterbury ruled out the idea of the church sanctioning gay marriages, but indicated he was more receptive to a change in the the rules to sanction divorced men and women getting re-married in church. He talked about women bishops, gay priests, spreading the Christain message to as wide an audience as possible...and also outlined his view of the Easter message.
