| Where does all the money go? ![]() Like many of us, Breakfast viewer John Evans is confused by the stock market. And, he's particularly puzzled when billions of pounds are wiped off the stock market on a bad day. Where does all the money go, he asked us in an e-mail earlier this week. So, we put Declan on the case - and he came up with some answers with Donna Bradshaw, from financial advisors Fiona Price and Partners. The answer, it appears, is that your money hasn't gone anywhere. If you invest 7,000 in a financial scheme like an ISA, the fund manager will take your money and buy shares with it on the stock market. If the market falls, you will be told you've lost money. But, that's only a paper loss. It won't actually affect you unless you need to cash in your investments. "A lot of investors panic and convert paper losses to actual losses," said Donna. "If they don't need this money right now, they should sit tight - unless the fund is a complete dog, in which case they should transfer it to another one." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
