Ban Ki-moon calls for ceasefire

The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has pledged to redouble his efforts to secure an end to the fighting in Gaza.

Speaking in Cairo at the beginning of a visit to Middle Eastern capitals, Mr Ban said he hoped an Egyptian ceasefire initiative would show results as soon as possible and said "both sides must stop fighting now".
