An assault by Indian troops has ended a three-day siege at Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel.

A number of people were being held hostage there by gunmen who attacked multiple locations in the city on Wednesday, leaving at least 195 people dead.

Commandos launched an attack in the early hours of Saturday to flush the remaining militants out, killing three.

Firemen extinguished a blaze in the building once troops had announced that they had control of it.

Teams of commandos searched the hotel for casualties and threats. Others stood down after the lengthy stand-off.

The three-day battle left large parts of the historic building destroyed.

The funerals have now started of some of those killed in the attacks, including the chief of Mumbai's Anti-Terrorist Squad, Hemant Karkare.
