In pictures: National TV Awards

Hollyoaks star Sarah Dunn arrived for the 14th National Television Awards, which were held at London's Royal Albert Hall.

TV host Holly Willoughby presented the first award of the night, which went to The Paul O'Grady Show for best entertainment programme.

Hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly picked up the most popular entertainment presenter award for the eighth year running.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell, who arrived at the ceremony with former pop star Sinitta, was presented with the special recognition award.

The other X Factor judges, Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Danni Minogue took the night off from mentoring their acts to attend the show.

Tess Daly was overjoyed that Strictly Come Dancing beat the X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Dancing on Ice in the most popular talent show category.

Comedian Griff Rhys Jones presented Top Gear's racing driver The Stig with the award for best factual programme.

Doctor Who was named most popular serial drama for the fourth year running. But fans of the BBC show were in for a huge surprise later on in the ceremony.

Doctor Who star David Tennant was unable to attend the awards. However, he still stole the show as he announced he was leaving the series as he collected his award for outstanding drama performance.

BBC soap EastEnders beat rivals Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks in the most popular serial drama category. Barbara Windsor said the win was "better than sex".

Former Hear'Say members Suzanne Shaw and Myleene Klass bumped into each other on the red carpet.
