In pictures: Burma cyclone by satellite

Satellite images from Sentinel Asia, a flood monitoring service, show the path of the devastating Cyclone Nargis as it formed over the Indian Ocean and made its way towards Burma.

Still two days before the worst of the damage is caused in Burma, this images shows how the cyclone was accumulating massive amounts of rainfall - the red patches show the wettest areas.

On 2 May large parts of the cyclone were reaching land. The areas carrying the most rainfall had reduced in area, but the cyclone's destructive power was still formidable.

Here the Sentinel Asia satellite image shows the cyclone as its height on land, the main red patch to the south showing where the worst of the damage was caused.

On May 4 the power of Cyclone Nargis was starting to lessen, although it was still dumping large amounts of water across a wide area.
