Abdulla Ahmed Ali is on trial with seven other men, accused of conspiring to murder and endangering planes in 2006. They all deny the charges at Woolwich Crown Court.

Prosecutors say eight men planned to kill passengers by detonating home-made bombs, disguised as soft drinks, aboard flights to the US. The court was shown images of a cupboard containing bottles.

Jars containing batteries, food colouring and syringes were also shown to the jury. It is alleged the items could be used to make bombs.

Woolwich Crown Court heard extracts from a diary that had been in Mr Ali's possession.

The court heard that in a diary found in Mr Ali's possession were phrases including "perfect disguise", "select date" and "five days before all link up".

The prosecution says a memory stick found in Mr Ali's possession contained lists of flights, departing between August and October 2006. They were destined for New York, Montreal, San Francisco, Washington, Toronto, and two for Chicago.

Mr Ali was arrested in August 2006. Police called in a bomb squad to make sure his car, a silver Kia borrowed from co-defendant Arafat Waheed Khan, was safe to search.

Assad Sarwar, 27, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, is among the men accused of taking part in the alleged plot.

The court heard a dumped suitcase containing equipment and raw bomb making materials were found in woodland in High Wycombe. A digital thermometer was among the items found in the case.

A bottle containing hydrogen peroxide, an ingredient for improvised bombs, was among the items found in woodland.
