The MTV Europe Music Awards have been held in Germany, where Canada's Nelly Furtado won album of the year. Babyshambles singer Peter Doherty (centre right) performed, though not with Amy Winehouse as had been reported. Singer Joss Stone was on hand to present an award and offer her thoughts on rock and roll excess. Amy Winehouse, who was accompanied by her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, won the artists' choice award. Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas sang on stage with Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. Avril Lavigne was the star of the show after being named best solo artist. She also won for most addictive track. German rock band Tokio Hotel received the award for best international group. Lebanon-born singer Mika arrived wearing a brooch worth $6.5m (�3.2m). Dave Grohl, who performed with his group the Foo Fighters, also ran a bar for the performers. My Chemical Romance also attended. Next year's awards will be held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
