New Young Pony Club

Mercury Music Prize nominees New Young Pony Club arrived for the award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The Klaxons

The Klaxons scooped the award. Lead singer Jamie Reynolds (left) still managed to attend the ceremony despite breaking his leg during a performance in France.

Jamie T (second left) wrote and recorded most of his debut album, Panic Prevention, from his home in Wimbledon.

The Young Knives

The post-punk trio, The Young Knives, ditched their usual country gent-style tweed blazers and donned smart suits for the event.

Bat For Lashes

Bat For Lashes, fronted by Natasha Khan, were the favourite to take home the �20,000 cash prize for the album, Fur and Gold.

The View

Dundee band The View have come a long way since they were discovered by Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty.

Maps

Maps is James Chapman. He was nominated for his album We Can Create, which he put together from his Northampton bedroom.

Fionn Regan (second left) and his band

The Mercury judges described Fionn Regan (second left) as a "modern day Irish troubadour" with "moving songs beautifully played and sung".

Dizzee Rascal

Rapper Dizzee Rascal previously won the award in 2003. He was shortlisted again for his album Maths and English.

Basquiat Strings and Seb Rochford (third right).

This year's jazz entry was the classically trained quintet Basquiat Strings who teamed up with Seb Rochford, (third right) the drummer with Polar Bear.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse avoided the red carpet but did perform at the event. It was her first appearance for several weeks.
