Thousands of animals - including pets and livestock - have been caught up in the recent flooding which hit central and southern England.

Many evacuated cats and dogs are waiting to be reunited with their owners at the Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association headquarters in Cheltenham.

Megan and Owain are among the dogs being temporarily housed at the Gloucestershire centre. The county has been one of the worst hit by the floods.

The RSPCA says more than 5,000 animals have been affected by the crisis. Many have been evacuated because of a lack of clean drinking water.

The RSPCA has deployed a third of its staff to assist with the rescue of stranded animals. A cat was evacuated from Upper Lode, near Tewkesbury, on Friday.

The RSPCA said most animals have been evacuated with their owners and are now in alternative accommodation.
