On 10 May 2007, the eight winning students of the School's Question Time Challenge gathered in London to meet each other and share ideas for their special programme on 5 July.

Armed with marker pens and flipcharts, the group discussed the potential subject matter for the show, as well as the composition of both the panel and the audience.

They also considered how best to use the internet before, during and after the show, and how to generate interest and excitement about Schools Question Time among their peers.

Next it was off to the studio to meet David Dimbleby and the Question Time production team, who were preparing that evening's programme.

The students pretend to be panellists, but who will they really entice to appear on their programme in the summer? "Gordon Brown would be ideal," said student producer Jason.

Given their first taste of life both in front of the camera and behind it, the students had to decide what roles they would take on their own big night.

Up in the gallery, director David Coleman talked the students through the mechanics of programme-making and the kind of decisions that have to be made during the show.
