Hundreds of fans were at New York's Apollo theatre to greet the coffin carrying soul singer James Brown, which arrived in a horse-drawn carriage. Crowds of people danced and sang outside the Apollo, in Harlem, where his body is now lying in state. The coffin was placed on the stage where Brown made his 1956 debut, in a venue which he loved. Desi Middleton was one of hundreds of fans who waited for hours in advance outside the concert hall. When the star's body arrived they performed his anthem Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud.
