The Flintstones began in 1960 and became not only Hanna-Barbera's biggest hit, but one of the most successful cartoons of all time. Yogi Bear was one of several Hanna-Barbera characters to have a collar, allowing the head to be animated separately and reducing production costs. Scooby Doo, the tale of a cowardly dog and his ghost-hunting friends, began in 1969 and is still being made. Dick Dastardly and Muttley were the villains of Wacky Races, which also featured Penelope Pitstop. Stone Age cartoon The Flintstones was based on 1950s TV sitcom The Honeymooners. Hong Kong Phooey was the crime-fighting alter ego of mild-mannered janitor Penrod Pooch. The Jetsons was a companion piece to the Flintstones, also featuring the trials and tribulations of an 'ordinary' family, but set in the future.
