Tony Curtis is celebrating his 80th birthday. He was born Bernard Schwartz in The Bronx in New York and became a huge Hollywood star. He appears here in The Boston Strangler (1968). His role as the Boston Strangler earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Other stand-out roles include Antoninus in 1960's Spartacus, in which he starred alongside Kirk Douglas and Laurence Olivier. Curtis has married five times. His first wife was the actress Janet Leigh. Their daughter is Jamie Lee Curtis, who has also carved out a successful film career for herself. Curtis starred with Sidney Poitier in the jail break classic The Defiant Ones (1958). It earned both men Oscar nominations. One of Curtis' most cherished - and famous - roles was in 1959's Some Like It Hot alongside Marilyn Monroe. Curtis also produced a couple of his films and, since the late 1970s, has appeared in various TV productions, including a recurring role in the TV series Vegas (1978-81) . Tony Curtis has become a painter in recent years and his work is well regarded. He recently guest starred in an episode of hit US show CSI.
