This time around the actor will not have to don a wig and dress as he is playing the character of millionaire Osgood Fielding. Curtis, Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon starred together in the 1959 classic cross-dressing comedy.
He compared his role to "like winning the lottery". The 75-year-old has started taking dancing lessons to prepare for the part which could net him up to $100,000 (71,400) a week. This could rise considerably from video and DVD sales as interest in the original film is aroused. Curtis is also not ruling out the play embarking on a worldwide tour. He told Daily Variety: "Paris, Moscow - Some Like It Hot is international! "You can't be rich enough - or tall enough! Ah, things are so good." He also said he was prepared to get more plastic surgery to keep him looking good. "If I need a little screw tightening up in my face I'll get it," he added. The original Billy Wilder film saw Curtis and Lemmon play musicians who witness the St Valentine's Day massacre and flee Chicago disguised as women in a band. Curtis' character falls in love with Sugar Kane played by Marilyn Monroe. But the character Curtis will play later this year is an ageing millionaire, originally played by comedian Joe E Brown, who falls for one of the cross-dressers. |
