Ruby Walsh (Papillon's jockey): "He's the best jumper of all time. He was giving the first couple of fences one or two feet clear... When Norman [Williamson] on Mely Moss went by going very easy but my fella was doing nothing in front. He just picked up and kept finding and finding. They were never going to get by me.

"I think I might do a bit of celebrating tonight."

Ted Walsh (Papillon's trainer and father of Ruby): "It's a great day to be alive. I've had so many wonderful days in racing and this is one of the great ones.

"I've had a bit on myself... But I don't know who had all the money today. Maybe Alex Ferguson had a few bob on."

Betty Moran (winning owner): [Asked why she had refused to let Papillon run last year] "I thought it was kind of dangerous and I didn't want anyone to get hurt, but today it all worked out."

Richard Johnson (Star Traveller's jockey): "He made a bad mistake after the Canal Turn and didn't feel right so I pulled him up."

William Hill spokesman: "Punters will be celebrating until Christmas and they will need wheelbarrows to collect their winnings. They will be collecting the best part of �10 million on the result."

Brendan Powell (jockey on Young Kenny): "He was a little bit awkward at the Canal Turn and got a bit close at the tenth. He didn't catch much of it but he just tipped over. It's disappointing more than anything else."

Andrew Thornton (Stormy Passage's jockey): "I was travelling so unbelievably well but just got in a little tight at Becher's and tipped. I don't really know what happened and I wasn't even sure whether I was brought down."

Richard Guest (Red Marauder): "I'm disappointed but we are all safe. He put a leg out to save himself but the ground was slippy. That's racing. What can you do?"

Robert Bellamy (jockey on Trinitro - fell 1st): "After all the hype and interest beforehand I was sorry I couldn't repay them. He was running very quick towards the first and I think he only got one foot off the ground. It's the first fall of his life and I'm very disappointed."

Mick Fitzgerald (Esprit De Cotte's jockey): "He was absolutely brilliant all the way, jumpping from fence to fence but he landed a bit steep at the second Becher's and you can't do that here."

Philip Hide (Brave Highlander): "He gave me a great ride. It's great to get in the money."
