Nottingham's trams are running to a timetable - but are not yet picking up passengers.

The trams were built in Derby by Bombardier.

Trams reach a top speed of 50mph (80km/h) and feature three types of brakes, including electro-magnets for emergencies.

Trams will hold about 200 people each (62 seated). Trips will cost �1 each.

Line One covers 14km and will be serviced by 15 trams.

The whole system is run from a Nasa-style control room.

The city's Lace Market area, including St Mary's Church, is a historic back drop for a modern system.

Trams last ran in Nottingham 67 years ago.
