| Brussels Treaty The Brussels Treaty was the first attempt after the Second World War to use European integration to prevent further conflict. It was drafted and signed in 1948 by France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK signed the Brussels Treaty. It agreed on military assistance as well as economic, social and cultural co-operation.
