'Time is running short'

General Stanley McChrystal, the US commander of Nato forces in Afghanistan, is to give a keynote speech in London on Thursday - his first public speech since submitting his assessment of the situation in Afghanistan to the White House.

In it, he warned that the situation was serious, but that success was achievable with the right strategy and additional resources.
