The UK Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel to Mexico, where swine flu is believed to have claimed almost 150 lives.
A couple are being treated in hospital in Scotland for the virus, after returning from honeymoon in Mexico.
England's Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson said the government has been preparing for a new strain of flu for the last five years, and has a stockpile of drugs.
