The States plans to introduce the goods tax in 2008

The Treasury and Resources Department is allowing people an extra nine days to comment on the proposed new laws.

The consultation has been extended to 30 June following requests from the public, business and community groups.

Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur said as the whole island would be affected, he wanted to give people every chance to understand what the tax would mean.

Consultation carried out so far has seen some members of the public and politicians saying the tax should not be applied to some items, including: some foods, children's clothing, medical services, books and newspapers.
