On 6 June 1944, Allied Forces crossed the sea from England to France to start the invasion regarded as the turning point in the war against Nazi Germany.

Jersey veteran Dave Woods is visiting the first town to be liberated on D-Day, Sainte Maire Eglise.

He said: "It brought a tear to the eye, it was quite emotional."

"It was good to sit there in the square and look at all these old chaps sitting there talking about the parachute jumping."

D-Day was the largest air, land and sea military operation ever undertaken.
