 People gathered in St Helier for a commemorative service |
Hundreds of islanders have attended anniversary events marking the liberation of Jersey from Nazi occupation in World War II. The 61st Liberation Day events were based at Liberation Square, St Helier on Tuesday.
A re-enactment of the liberation was followed by a commemorative service, and a recording of an address by the 1945 Bailiff Alexander Countanche.
A military procession took place and bands performed.
Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache welcomed the Spanish Ambassador who laid a wreath in memory of the Spanish men and women forced into labour during the Occupation.
The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to fall into Nazi hands in World War II.
