Tourism boss lauds airline change
Rockhopper
The airline was named Rockhopper in 2002
The President of Guernsey's Hospitality and Tourism Committee says a name change and new routes for local airline Rockhopper will be good for Guernsey.

Chris Sharp believes the move will be a step forward for tourism.

The company will change its name to Blue Islands and will be introducing new aircraft as well as new routes to Europe and to the Isle of Man.

Mr Sharp says the changes to the airline prove there is a future for the travel industry in the Bailiwick.

Blue Islands will run its finance and reservations system from Guernsey but its management, operations and crew will still be based in Jersey.

The move coincides with the delivery of the first of its new fleet of 19-seater aircraft and a new air link with the Isle of Man.

The company said it hoped the name change would boost its holiday travel image.
