Inflation blamed for tourism fall
Fewer tourists will visit Jersey if inflation remains at its current level, a new report has warned.

Other destinations with the same attractions as Jersey are also blamed for the decline in tourism, says the report by government consultants Oxera.

Since 1997, visitor numbers have fallen by 25% and their spending has fallen by about 33%.

A workshop to examine ways to develop the industry is to be run by the States Economic Development Committee.

Members of Jersey's tourism industry will be asked what factors are deterring businesses from investing in tourism, how should the island be marketed and whether the government should invest in an attraction which might draw in more tourists.

Last month, a new ferry link between the Channel Islands and France was announced to encourage closer tourism ties with France.

French firm Manche Iles Express has taken over the Victor Hugo ferry service and it is adding a new boat and new routes to its timetables.
