Concern over island school places

Children in St John are being sent to schools outside the parish
Children living in Jersey are being refused a place at their local parish school, according to parents.

Some residents living on the outer edges of St John are not being accepted at St John's Primary School, even though siblings have been taught there.

The Deputy of the parish claims it is because of new luxury developments and people from other parishes moving to the area.

Phil Rondel says this is wrong and parish children should be looked after.

He claims four or five years ago there had been room at the school, but the spaces were taken by incomers.

This now means children living in the outskirts of the parish, such as Bonne Nuit Bay and Sion are having to be sent to other schools.

No one from the Education Department was available for comment on Thursday.
