Naval ship visit for Liberation
HMS Albion: Press Association
The ship can carry landing tanks, battle trucks and landing craft
A specialised Royal Navy carrier ship is to visit Jersey for the first time in living memory as part of the 60th Liberation Day commemorations.

HMS Albion is one of the most sophisticated warships of its type.

The 18,500-tonne vessel, based at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth, can carry 700 Royal Marine Commandos and is part of an Amphibious Assault Force.

The ship will arrive on 6 May and will moor just off the Demi Des Pas lighthouse for four days.

At 176m (577ft) in length, HMS Albion is the size of two football pitches. It was formally commissioned by the Princess Royal, Princess Anne, in 2003.

The ship is able to carry up to 60 vehicles, ranging from trucks to battle tanks, and eight new landing craft.
