Report warns of university cost
A States report has come out against setting up a university in Jersey.

The report looks at opportunities in Jersey for school leavers and mature students and suggests what could be done to improve higher education.

Currently, 45% of Jersey students go on to study in the UK but there is increasing concern over the cost of tuition fees there.

But the report says a university would cost 40m and would cost 2.5m a year to run.

Instead the report suggests different services and organisations working together under one umbrella body which would be known as the Jersey Higher Education Academy.

A new partnership has just been set up between Jersey's Business School and the Cass Business School in the UK.

The aim is to improve the standard of business skills in the island.
