Andrew Lewis, chairman of Jersey's Institute of Directors is encouraging industries to diversify.

He says the island's industries need provide better opportunities for school leavers and university graduates.

His call comes amid concerns that firms will have to look outside Jersey for more workers if island people cannot be trained with the right skills.

Mr Lewis said: "We have, almost through government policy, encouraged a number of financial institutions to source certain types of jobs outside the island.

"That means there have been fewer jobs available for people coming out of secondary school in Jersey and for those coming out of university.

"So not only do we need to create more jobs for graduates to return to, we need to create more jobs for post A-level students who wish to remain in the island."
