Driving licence agreement reached
People from abroad who live in Jersey may now be able to obtain a new driving licence without retaking their test.

The States has agreed a licence exchange with some countries, including Singapore, the Falkland Islands, Latvia, Malta and northern Australia.

Previously foreign drivers whose Jersey licence had expired would have had to sit a test on the island.

An agreement already exists with France and Portugal, but there is no agreement with Spain or the United States.

The Driver and Vehicles Standards department is still waiting to hear from its counterparts in Poland about whether the licence exchange will apply there.
