Company meters out water charges
Water meter
A price freeze is offered to customers who install meters
Householders in Jersey are being encouraged to fit a meter by the island's water company.

Customers whose usage is based on the rateable value of their property will see a rise in prices this year of 4.4%.

However, Jersey Water says there will be no increase for customers supplied through the metering system.

Managing director and engineer Howard Snowdon says some households will save money, especially if they have a high rateable value but few occupants.

It will also mean the company can more accurately measure how much water is lost because of leaks.

Currently water engineers have to estimate the amount of water wasted each year.

Jersey Water is the sole provider of treated mains water in Jersey, supplying approximately 90% of the island's population.
