Jersey's health authorities are claiming the island's water supply has not been affected after being polluted by a pesticide over Christmas. Samples taken by Jersey Water showed relatively high levels of cyanazine, an agricultural pesticide, in the Grand Vaux Reservoir and Vallee des Vaux.
The Environment and Public Services Department is looking for the source.
Jersey Water said water in the affected areas was safe, but it had been removed from the supply as a precaution.
Water quality
Jersey's limits on pollution are very strict and monitoring is carried out all the time.
Gerry Jackson, from the Environment and Public Services Department, said the Grand Vaux catchment area is very large and it could have been washed in during heavy rainfall.
The Health Protection Department said it should not have had any health effects.
Despite the pollution, the overall quality of water in Jersey has improved.
In 2004, it was 98.8% compliant with standards set for drinking water.
