Deputy to stand down at election
The president of the committee responsible for Jersey's economic growth has announced he will not be standing for re-election.

Deputy Gerald Voisin says he is leaving the States to spend more time on his business and family.

Gerald Voisin was elected to the States as Deputy for St Lawrence in 1999.

He became head of the new Economic Development Committee in 2002, a department which brought together tourism, agriculture and transport.

'Almost full-time'

But Deputy Voisin said being a States Member has almost become a full-time job and believes it will only become busier for ministers under the new system.

He says it is not possible for him to balance those commitments with running Voisin's department store.

He thanked members of his department and the people of St Lawrence for their support during his two terms of office.

The parish will now get two new deputies, following the announcement of Maurice Dubras' statement that he too is standing down.

The election will be on 23 November.
