Deputy will not seek re-election
A Jersey politician has announced he is stepping down.

Deputy Maurice Dubras said he is not seeking re-election this autumn after representing the St Lawrence parish for nine years.

Mr Dubras, who will stay on until the end of the year, said it was time for a younger generation to take over.

Meanwhile Jersey's constables are considering alternative venues for this autumn's senatorial hustings because of the potential number of candidates.

John Germains, the chairman of the Comite des Connetables, said some of the public halls may not be big enough.

About 40,000 forms are being sent to homes across the island to update the electoral register.

Senatorial elections will be held in October and the Deputy elections will take place in November.
