Drivers planning taxi rank picket
Taxi sign
About 1,000 people signed a petition against the rank's closure
Jersey's taxi drivers are to picket the Broad Street taxi rank on Monday, when work to change the area begins.

The drivers are unhappy at having to move and claim there are no guarantees there will be enough spaces on the rank once the work is finished.

The changes are an attempt to make the area more pedestrian friendly. About 200,000 is being spent on new lighting, seating, bins and trees.

The work is expected to take five months to complete.

Senator Philip Ozouf says he does not want the road to become a parking area for taxis, but is willing to work with drivers to find a solution.

Meanwhile Senator Ted Vibert is proposing the start of work is delayed.
